ATTRIBUTES

Built For: Shortboard
For the first time since the El Patron in 2018, we have released a high-volume, performance-driven shortboard designed for bigger and aging surfers who refuse to transition to hybrids, mid-lengths, or fish. Enter the BIG RIG—a finely tuned, high-performance shortboard that lets you paddle easier, catch more waves, and still rip with precision.
The inspiration for this board came straight from the growing demand for larger-scale, high-performance shortboards - surfers who love the DRIVER 3.0 and DRIVER 2.0 but need more volume without sacrificing performance.
We took cues from Cole Houshmand’s powerful surfing, dialing in dimensions that suit bigger, more experienced surfers who still want to push their limits. Cole, at 6’4” and 220 lbs, surfs a board with elite-level precision. We realised his board dimensions could work not only for guys his size but also for older surfers in the 175-190 lb range - and beyond. The BIG RIG scales up and down to match different skill levels and body types while keeping pro-level performance intact.
This board isn’t just a scaled-up version of a shortboard—it’s been fine-tuned for bigger surfers who want high-performance surfing with added paddle power. Key design elements include:
- Thicker centerline with a rolled deck and smooth, sloping rails (not too boxy, not too chunky).
- Continuous rocker, accelerating under the back foot while keeping relaxed entry rocker for easier paddling.
- Deep single concave between the feet, mellowing out in the nose and tail for a buttery smooth ride.
- Pronounced double concave through the fins, helping cut through modern high-performance tail rocker.
- Curvy, catch-free outline with a modest squash tail, ideal for everyday surf conditions.
- Refined forward outline and lower entry rocker to maximise paddle power and wave-catching ability—because let’s face it, no one wants to see older guys struggling to generate speed.
The BIG RIG is glassed with the same premium blanks and high-performance construction as our smaller Pro-formance Series boards. That means a responsive, nimble, and lightweight feel underfoot, even in bigger dimensions.
And if our stock dimensions aren’t quite right, we’ve got you covered. We can custom adjust the sizing, tweak volumes, or swap in round or round pin tails to create a board that’s tailor-made for you.
The BIG RIG is more than just a bigger board—it’s a high-performance shortboard designed for those who refuse to slow down.
